Untitled

She visits me only underneath a disguise of darkness.
I get shunned with the rising of the sun, as if the shame
is too much to part with.
While disheartened by her contrition, I gladly pardon the conditions
just to spend minutes under her glow, to see her part with her inhibitions and
let us grow, however slowly, and to let her know I desire her for much more
than can be offered to me through vision.
Her visits seem fleeting, each meeting over in the blink of an eye.
I'm left just on the brink of delight. My heart sinks with each goodbye.
Together, we drink of the night, but at dawn I feast alone.
Before we can reach the unknown, the sun always seems to beat us home,
leading us to our own seperate ever after; her's heaven, mine hell.
And what was time well spent, becomes nothing more than series of overexposed images,
her face all thats left behind.
A new pain takes effect as I throw curses to the sky, as high as my words can fly.
Damn the sun and its pride, its envy of the light she provides.
Again, I close my eyes, but her disguise has been compromised.
The day has taken from me what the night created, and my only wish
is to be sedated.
Wake me when the light has faded. Better yet, let me rest.

Numbr Spot Radio Episode 3: Dedicated to Mr. Magic! RIP!

This is an episode we felt was very necessary, albeit a bit sad. We decided to put indy week on hold, and dedicate this episode to the late, great John "Mr. Magic" Rivas, without whom this show, and every other hip-hop mix show would not exist. Mr. Magic's Rap Attack was the first hip-hop radio mixshow, and through this outlet, Mr. Magic gave alot of artists their start, from Run-DMC to Whodini to the Juice Crew (whom Mr. Magic pka Sir Juice founded w/ Marley Marl, the Rap Attack's DJ). If it hadnt been for him, there's no telling where this culture we love so much would be. We may not have personally known Mr. Magic, but we felt it necessary to to dedicate this show to him. So we will be playing music from artists Mr. Magic helped to break, as well as music from other artists he frequently played during the Rap Attack. Thanks for listening, and Enjoy! (Hosted by Haywood & Wes)

This Weeks New Releases (9/29)

This was a much slower week than the last two weeks prior, but there were still some pretty notable releases this week, namely the record i've been waiting for for quite some time, Skyzoo's "The Salvation." Seems like a fitting start to the article, so let's begin!

Skyzoo- The Salvation
Prod. By: 9th Wonder, Just Blaze, Cyrus the Great, Best Kept Secret, Nottz, Black Milk, Illmind, Needlz, & Eric G.

Simply reading the producers list for this album, at least for another producer/artist, is a dream come true. And the sound definitely is every bit as good as you would think it is. After hearing Cloud 9, I knew Sky would hold up to his end of the bargain, as Sky is a damn good MC. All there was left for me was the beats, and they didn't dissapoint.

Favorite Record: For What It's Worth.

Ghostface- The Wizard of Poetry

Prod. By: Scram Jones, Sean C & LV, Justice League, Clyde & Harry, Scott Storch, Ant Acid, Xtreme.

This album was alot better than I thought it would be. Gotta thank my dude Trew for actually making me take the first listen. Ghost is, and always was, definitely in my top 5 emcee's of all times. But after hearing the concept for the album, i wasnt sure what to expect. Especially at the mention of a Ron Browz feature (damn). But this ended up being quite good. It's just more of Ghost being Ghost. It works on almost all levels, minus a few tracks (Ron Browz track especially). Make sure u listen to "Stapleton Sex." Timeless!

On the real, I think this is all i was excited for this week. Short album release write up, I know. But just blame it on the brain, because clearly I must be forgetting some albums. If so, let me know. And be sure to visit www.thenumbrspot.webs.com for discussions on this site and the podcast, www.thenumbrspot.podomatic.com!

Post-Racial!? Where is that word in the Dictionary!?

I'm sure most of you are just as tired as me of hearing about this Kanye West- Taylor Swift fiasco. And trust me, after stating my case for just a few more sentences, I will wash my hands of it all. But my gripe now is not about what went down at the show, but the tomfoolery that transpired afterward.

Now, before i get into this small rant, allow me to direct your attention to the following article, written by Harry Allen. It will give you a bit of background about what I'm about to speak on.

http://harryallen.info/?p=5154&cpage=1#comment-98284

(Hopefully, you actually read the article.)

After reading this article, 2 thoughts immediately came to mind. First, what about this incident lead these half-wit, cousin fuckers to believe that one bold, abrasive, misplaced act of passion (no matter how innappropriate) was an act of racism!? Did he get up there, and go on any kind of radical rant filled with epithets? NO! Secondly, after reading this article, how could anyone begin to tell me or anyone else that the election of Obama makes us a "post-racial society?"

There is not, and may never be a "post-racial society." Why, you ask? Because the same people writing these silly ass comments from behind the shield of anonymity that is the internet refuse to acknowledge the fact that they are, indeed, racists. Most of them will just use some tired excuse, such as, "U don't have to be black to be a Nigger" (I'm sure there are a number of folks out there over the age of 40 that can certainly tell u of a time in this country where that statement would be met with violence), or "I'm not saying it about all black people," (fuck outta here), or my personal favorite, "I was just mad when i said it. I didn't mean it." That one has to be the most illogical, foolish, and overall misleading thing to say. Because if one day, I were to simply make them mad, i.e. cut them off in traffic, they could up and say it again, and use the same excuse, "no, i'm not racist. I was just angry. I'll never say it again." How can I possibly believe that they would never say it again, when it takes something as small as this simple foolish act to bring this word out of you. Clearly, its been on the tip of your tounge before, if you have no problem just bringing it out for the world to read via twitter.

This is a day now, where everyone is calling racism for the stupidest shit. White people & Black People. The happenings in this article are just a small fraction of what goes on day to day in this country. Do I think Kanye was right to do what he did? Hell no! It was another black eye on his image, that he did not need. But clearly this whole Taylor Swift backlash is a sign that, in alot of people's eyes, this moment was clearly bigger than one artist standing up for what he believed in at the wrong moment in time. It was Kanye being racist, which in turn gives these half-wits perfect timing to play their version of the race card. Ahh the logic of the mentally atrophied..
